Bucket Lists and Such

Hey, everybody! We are getting ready for the “Apoco-Eclipse 2017” here in Clarksville, TN, and I keep thinking things are about to get a little crazy around here. I believe they are estimating our city will be overflowing with close to half a million people hanging out to watch the 2 minute excitement, but so far, I haven’t noticed any mass crowding…

As we look forward to this once-in-a-lifetime event, I have a related question for you.

Do you have a bucket list? If so, what’s on it?

Until recently, I’d never actually sat down to think about what would go on my bucket list. I’m not super adventurous like my husband. I can probably name some crazy things that would be on his list – things like skydiving, scaling some really tall mountain, and cycling on one of the world’s most dangerous courses.

Those things do not appeal to me in the least. So thinking about my bucket list seems a little boring. But here are a few things I’ve come up with.

  1. Travel to Spain. Or anywhere in Europe. I’ve heard that Spain is amazing and their culture is fascinating so of course I would love to visit. But really anywhere in Europe would be fine with me. Italy? Sure. France? Why not. Germany? Yes, please. I’m not picky – just put me on a plane and I’m sure I would enjoy any of those countries.
  2. Travel to Israel. My mom went to Israel a few years ago and she hasn’t quit talking about it. I would really love to walk where Jesus walked and to visit the many sites and cities that I’ve read about since I was a little girl. I cannot imagine the feelings being in Israel would inspire in me. It’s definitely somewhere I want to go.
  3. Take a family mission trip overseas. Now, I realize that I can do mission work right where I am in my own backyard. But there’s something about going overseas and seeing with my own two eyes how other people live that is appealing to me on so many levels. I want my kids to see how other people live, too. I want them to understand that other people do not have the conveniences we have with everything at our fingertips. And I want them to experience the joy of telling others about Jesus. Before I know it, Brienne will be out of the house, and she will miss out on this family mission trip opportunity. I need to start planning.
  4. Write our story. I have a book in my head that is trying really hard to come out. I keep pushing it back inside as I tell myself that I just don’t have time to write a book in this season of my life. But I want to write about our season of infertility, our precious Brienne, our failed adoptions, our journey to Jonah, and our miracle of Vivienne. I don’t even want to write it for others necessarily, but I want my kids to have it in their hands so they can see the Lord’s faithfulness in our lives. I think scripture encourages us to do this – to tell our children about His faithfulness – so I want my kids (and their kids) to have a record of the many miracles God has performed in our family.

Those are just a few things on my bucket list. I should probably stop at 4 because, let’s be real here: It’s going to take a lot of time and money to accomplish those few things. And I couldn’t really think of anything else that seemed urgent enough to add to my list.

So, what is on your bucket list? I would love to hear from you. Maybe I could add some of your suggestions to mine. Ha!
