I Want to Be “Anchored In”

Over the next couple weeks, I am going to be sharing with you what I’ve been learning through some recent books that have been published. And for the record, although I was provided with an advanced reader copy, I do not get any sort of monetary compensation for promoting these books. I just love them and want you to love them too!

It’s no secret that our family has been through a lot of hard things. From infertility to failed adoptions to an autism diagnosis, our emotions have run the gamut over the past several years. And even when we aren’t struggling with big things, the everyday chaos can feel overwhelming.

Oftentimes, it’s easy to blame God for our struggles, or at the very least, feel hurt by Him. There have been seasons when I’ve questioned His plans for our family, unsure of what He was orchestrating in the background. Then there were other times when I  chose to trust Him completely with whatever came our way.

We all react differently to situations in our lives. When we are not in close fellowship with Jesus, it’s easy to simply drift away, allowing our love for God to diminish. But when we are committed to our relationship with Christ, it is less challenging to trust Him in the darkness.

In her new book Anchored In, my friend Micah Maddox says this:

“When we go through seasons of struggle and answers don’t come, it is so easy to shake our fists at God as if we deserve an answer, a remedy, a solution.”

But she reminds us that when we lash out in anger towards Him, we may be “completely missing what God is doing amid the dark times” in our lives.

Looking back on the difficult periods of our marriage and family life, I am able to see that God had a plan for each season. He knew exactly what He was doing. He had a purpose for those difficult situations –  to grow me and stretch me for greater things. If I had refused to endure the trials, I would not be the person I am today.

I don’t want to miss what He is doing in the darkness. I want to partner with Him, confident in His goodness.

Anchored In is a touching and heartfelt look at one woman’s journey through some hard things. Y’all. I could relate to Micah’s story on so many levels and I think you will be able to relate as well. But she doesn’t just tell her story of hardships. She shows us how to be “anchored in” to Jesus, our ultimate power source and strength. I believe you will be encouraged by Micah’s honesty and her vulnerability. Trusting Jesus through the worst things in our lives isn’t easy. But when we choose Him, He will carry us through.

Our pastor recently preached on 1 Corinthians 13:13, and it resonated so deeply with me as I thought about being “anchored in.”

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (NIV)

This verse is probably familiar to many of us. As my pastor spoke, he mentioned that biblical hope could be defined as “confidence that God is working good out of difficulty.” Hope isn’t just some word we use flippantly. It shows our expectant trust in Jesus.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly want to put my confidence in Christ, trusting that He has a plan and purpose for everything, even the most difficult circumstances we encounter.

Friend, I encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, too. Anchor into Him today and He will hold you steady in the midst of your storms.

If you would like to order Micah’s new book, Anchored In, you can find it on Amazon or anywhere books are sold. It will definitely be an encouragement to you!

  1. I’m really excited to read this book! I think anything that helps us to get honest about the hardest things in life is well worth the read. Thanks for your personal take and endorsement. Praying a wonderful launch for Micah!
