Update on our Adoption

Well, I feel like I’ve sort of been off the radar as far as our adoption goes, so I wanted to update all of you who have been asking about it and praying with us.

As many of you know, we have felt God’s call on our family to adopt a child from India. Our kids are so excited and keep coming up with names for this new addition to our family. It’s so fun to hear them talk about their new little brother or sister and we can’t wait to actually meet this baby who will become our son or daughter!

Because we moved to Tennessee this summer and Peter has recently retired from the Air Force, all of our paperwork needed to be resubmitted. We purposefully waited until I started a job so we would have some additional income to report. First of all, adoption is expensive, and second, India wants to see that we can financially support an additional child.

We recently updated our paperwork with our adoption agency, Children of the World. They have been so great about our delays, and I am thankful for that godly group of women who pray over each family and referral.

We then found an agency in Nashville to complete our home study for us, Catholic Charities of Tennessee. We met with our social worker a couple weeks ago and it was a great experience! We took her down the road of our infertility and failed adoptions from the past, Jonah’s adoption and our surprise pregnancy with Vivienne. We had a great chat and will meet with this social worker two more times before the home study process is over.

Now we have mountains of paperwork to complete, which can definitely feel overwhelming. And with Peter in school, it may take us a while to finish all of the forms and questionnaires.

But just like I told our social worker at our meeting, I do not feel the pressure or anxiety about this adoption that I have felt during our past international adoption attempts.

I know that God has a plan. I know that He has His own timeline and it will be better than any timeline I could put together.

He has shown us over and over that He knows what is best. Only the God of the universe could knit our family in a perfect way and we are trusting Him with this process.

If you would like to join us on this journey, here are a couple ways you can help:

  1. Give: International adoption can cost anywhere from $25,000 to $40,000. We have a GoFundMe account set up to help fund our adoption so if you feel led, you can give at this link. Any little bit helps!
  2. Pray: I’m not even kidding when I say this is the most important thing you can do for us. Pray for God’s timing. Pray that we would not get discouraged during the process. Pray for the child that God has chosen for us. And pray for our family as we prepare to add a fourth child.

Y’all are the best! We are so thankful for everyone’s support. And I promise to keep you posted as we get further along in this process.

  1. Oh Adrienne, this post made me smile. Not because of all the lovely paperwork (groan), but because of the peace you’re feeling and the ways you can see this adoption process is different from the others. If I learned anything from our two international adoptions, it’s this: “I know that He has His own timeline and it will be better than any timeline I could put together.” I’ll be looking forward to reading about how God brings all this together for you! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Lois, for the encouraging words. I would love to hear about your two adoptions!
