“If The Stars Were Made to Worship…”

I sit here in the quiet, reading the latest post from an old friend whose husband has recently passed away. My heart breaks for her and for her children as they worry and grieve. Yet, in their darkest hour, they continue to praise Jesus. I wonder how I would react if I found myself in their situation.

Then I hear my sweet teen playing her guitar and singing the latest Hillsong worship song “So will I.” Her words wash over me, and I can hardly listen without tears streaming down my face. And I am reminded.

If the stars were made to worship so will I
If the mountains bow in reverence so will I
If the oceans roar Your greatness so will I
For if everything exists to lift You high so will I
If the wind goes where You send it so will I
If the rocks cry out in silence so will I
If the sum of all our praises still falls shy              Then we’ll sing again a hundred billion times

My heart constricts as I ponder the greatness of my Lord. His power and love and mercy. His forgiveness and sacrifice. Jesus died for me and He died for you. He alone is worthy of our praise, no matter what our circumstances may otherwise indicate.

So often we attend church and sing along with the worship leader, but we don’t really listen to the words we’re singing. Even as a member of our worship team, it’s easy for me to just go through the motions, my mind on things happening at home or on my schedule for the upcoming week.

But this morning as I helped lead worship, I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as we sang of God’s reckless love. Tears filled my eyes as we sang about the lengths our Jesus will go to find us and save us.

There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

Friend, I don’t know what heartache you’re facing today. What devastating news you may have just received. But I do know that my Jesus will come for you. He loves you with a love unlike any other, a reckless love, and He will do anything to get to you.

“Jesus, remind us of your unending, unfathomable love. May we praise You always. Forgive me when I forget just how majestic You are. Thank You for climbing mountains and tearing down lies so you could get to me. O, Lord If the stars were made to worship You, so will I.”

  1. I find myself rolling through the motions at times, too, Adrienne. Battleground, I suppose. But goodness! That sound – it’ll wrap its arms around me and usher me straight to my Daddy. It’s a goodie.
Have a beautiful day. Visiting via #raralinkup.
