A Firm Foundation

For those of you who don’t know, we are in the process of building a house here in Clarksville and it’s been an exciting (and sometimes stressful) process.

It’s been really neat to watch each step, though, especially since I haven’t had to make many decisions yet. (I hate making decisions so the next few months are going to be really difficult for me as we pick out floors and paint colors and countertops and light fixtures and cabinet pulls and all the things. Gah! Decision fatigue is already setting in…)

But last week we did something special. We took our kids out to the house, armed with pages of scripture we wanted to write on the foundation of our home. I got a little teary (big surprise) watching my children get excited about writing God’s word on all the boards and beams.

Deciding which Scriptures to write

We wrote scripture on the entry door frames, in the kitchen, in the living room, in our basement, in the bathrooms, in our bedrooms, and in the playroom. It was such a special time of honoring the Lord and trusting that He would hear our prayers for this house. Check out some of our pictures!

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
For the kitchen – “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8
For Vivi’s closet – “Strength and honor are her clothing…” Proverbs 31:25
Brienne writing her life verse in her bedroom: “But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

On the entry doors – “You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.” Deut 28:6

For the playroom – “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults because of your love.” Ephesians 4:2
The Prayer of Jabez

We wrote so many more scriptures throughout the house, but one of my favorites was one I wrote in the girls’ bathroom.

“It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from within you – the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit that will never be destroyed and is very precious to God.” 1 Peter 3:3-4

Don’t we all need that reminder?

Our family is excited to begin a new adventure in this house! My prayer is that these scriptures would seep into our souls as we seek to honor God, and that the Lord would use our family and our home to minister to others, to provide rest, and to be a place of acceptance.
