A Prayer for Our Country

Well, folks, the Presidential election is tomorrow, and I know it has caused anxiety in so many people. I have no idea what will happen once the votes are in. Will we even know who the next President will be or will it be a repeat of 2000, where every vote is scrutinized and every polling place recounts the votes that were cast?

Who knows?

What I do know is this:

Our nation needs our prayers now more than ever.

The people in our nation need our prayers more than ever.

So today, on this election eve, I’m asking you to take a few minutes and pray for the following things:

  • Pray for both Presidential candidates and Vice-Presidential candidates and their families. Elections take a toll on people. On wives. On children and grandchildren. I honestly cannot imagine how anyone has the physical stamina to endure it, much less the emotional stamina. So pray for ALL of those involved, whether you like them or not. Because they all need our prayers today.
  • Pray for a peaceful outcome to this election. Our nation has never been more divided, and there is a great fear that no matter who wins the election. the opposing side will rise up in protest. America was built on the foundation of a peaceful transfer of power. Let’s pray this continues to happen.
  • Pray that the people of our nation would remember their humanity. For so long now, I’ve felt like we don’t know how to be nice to those we disagree with. Wishing harm on people who have opposing views is not okay. We are all in this together and we need to find new ways to calmly and peacefully work through our differences.
  • And finally, pray for revival throughout our nation. Pray that Jesus would show Himself to those who have never met Him; pray that the Holy Spirit would fill our land. Because only then will our nation heal from all of its divisiveness and vitriol.

I have already cast my vote in this election. It is a privilege that many people throughout the world do not have and I don’t take it lightly. But now that my vote has been cast, I will trust that God has the outcome in His hands and that His plans are better than any I can imagine.
