A Scripture Reminder

God is really great at reminding us of things, isn’t He? A few days ago, He brought to mind my scripture verse for 2020. You know, the one I’ve frankly forgotten about during the craziness of the past few weeks.

“The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolated in the sight of all who pass through it.” Ezekiel 36:34

When I picked this verse, I had absolutely no idea what 2020 would hold. I could not have predicted a world-wide pandemic or being quarantined in our homes, or millions of people losing their jobs.

But God knew what this year would hold.

My “lands” were desolate. My energy was steadily draining in the busyness of raising four children, rushing to and fro, hurrying to cook a quick supper so I could get the kids bathed and in bed at a decent time.

But God knew my desolation. My desperation. My exhaustion. My frustration.

He saw what I needed. He saw what you needed too.

And He allowed the whole world to stop, to slow down for just a little while.

So He could once again cultivate our lands.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the decrease in air pollution in China. The fish being seen for the first time in Venice’s canals. God is literally cultivating our actual lands.

But He’s also cultivating the soil of our hearts, our families.

Don’t let these few weeks in quarantine be a waste. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying every single moment has to be memorable and amazing.

But make time to sit before the Lord. Spend more time with Him in prayer. Read His Word and see what He is speaking to you, over you. Be more intentional in teaching your children about Jesus.

Use this time to grow in your relationship with Jesus, leaning on Him and trusting in Him like never before.

That’s all He wants.

I recently heard someone say that maybe God is using this time to begin a revival in our nation.

But what if He’s using this time, instead, to cultivate a revival in your heart? In your family?

May it be so, Lord. Amidst the chaos and fear and uncertainty, cultivate a renewed love for You in my heart. Draw me close to You, Father. Cultivate my desolate lands for Your glory and goodness.
